Current research area:

Doppler Radar data analysis: Currently I'm working on a test bed to extract  wind field information from
Doppler radar  and balloon sounding  observations using variational analysis techniques.  Another project
I'm working on is the estimation of the deformation strain rate from data collected by a single Doppler radar.

Hurricanes: In particular the formation of these disturbances. The genesis of a Hurricane from more ordinary tropical convection is a fascinating problem. During the summer of 2010, I was involved in PREDICT (Pre-Depression  Investigation of Cloud-systems in the Tropics) The  aim of PREDICT is to test some hypothesis about the formation of tropical depressions.  The main tool for this task are dropsondes deployed from a nominal altitude of about 13 km by the NCAR GV research aircraft. In the field, I work as a flight scientist on-board the GV.
