on creating a good experimental environment in which to do
matrix math, it can be called ``Matlab-like''.

a programming language for drawing science-style graphs.
Great for 2D publication quality plots!

candis
is a collection of programs written in C to analyze and display atmospheric
science data.
It may be downloaded from here. Gunzip and untar the file, cd candis, and
follow instructions.

MeshTV This
is a very promising tool to plot in 3D.

MagicPoint
free
presentation software for X-Window. Very easy to use -- works just
fine.
