Report of the Budget and Research Committee, March 2013

The committee has obtained data for looking at trends in the average salaries and total number
of positions in different categories such as staff, faculty, and administrative positions. 
We also plan to examine changes in the fraction of part-time, visiting, and
non tenure-track positions within the faculty.

In our December 2012 report, we made a recommendation to have the Institute's workforce and 
salary data more publicly available, particularly in electronic format. We
now wish to propose the following resolution to the faculty senate.

Resolution - The Budget and Research Committee requests approval to take
the following actions: 

The committee has obtained data files on the annual NMT Workforce Analysis
from 2005-2012 in electronic format, which we will make publicly available on the Faculty Senate
website. The committee will request 
annual data every year from the Institutional Research Office and will
update the web-based data archive with these data.

Note: The committee would like to recognize the efforts by Stephanie Moore
in acquiring these data and preparing the electronic files.  
The files are in MS Excel format, with column entries for
EEO class, position, salary, employee type (full-time/part-time), start
date, tenure status (where applicable), ethnicity, and sex.  
There are no names or other personal information included.
