Dear
Colleague(s):
With National Science Foundation
support for over three decades, the Physics Department and the
Materials Research Center (MRSEC) at the University of Chicago have
conducted a highly successful Research Experience for Undergraduates
(REU) Program. Projects are distributed among the areas of
astrophysics, atomic physics, biophysics, condensed matter physics,
high-energy physics, materials science, mathematical physics,
nanoscience, polymers, space physics, spectroscopy of materials, and
other topics. This research experience is complemented by a
lecture series, field trips to Fermi and Argonne National
Laboratories, and special social events. We expect to accept
around 20-24 summer research interns. The
application deadline is February 15, 2023.
We
have enclosed the 2023 REU poster and an announcement about a
particular science/art/theater component associated with these REUs.
Although the Physics MRSEC Summer REU programs are funded separately,
the program activities and administration have been combined.
Collectively, we expect to be able to accept 20-24 students for the
2023 summer programs. We request that you display the REU
poster in an area of maximum exposure for interested students.
We
also greatly appreciate any efforts you can make to encourage your
qualified undergraduate students who might benefit from such programs
to apply. We are very confident and enthusiastic about the
prospects of providing very positive experiences for the
participating students and faculty.
Thank you
very much for your assistance in distributing this information.
Please email us at reu@uchicago.edu
with questions and/or mailing address corrections for future REU
mailings.
Sincerely
Tracy Walker
