GNOME in its default setup only looks for the CUPS printing system. To make it also recognize LPR or LPRNG, just set: gtk-print-backends = "file,lpr,cups" in the file .gtkrc-2.0 in your home directory. LPRNG is used on all Kestrel and Gryphon printers at this point.
