The Weather Research and Forecast (WRF) Model is applied to the Eastern Tropical Pacific to simulate the EPIC2001 95W latitude-height transects in a quasi-2D configuration. The model setup consist of 'standard wrf physics' with periodic boundary conditions across the narrow strip in the longitudinal direction, and specified boundary values in the latitudinal direction. At this stage, the influence of longitudinal advection is neglected. The model performance is evaluated by comparison with the EPIC2001 aircraft and surface measurements along 95W, emphasizing components of heat, moisture and momentum budgets. The model setup and the EPIC2001 dataset is also an ideal testbed for the performance of PBL schemes in this important region and some preliminary results of the inter-comparison are presented.
