-------- Original Message -------- Subject: October 15th Update Date: Tue, 16 Oct 2001 18:14:19 +0100 From: "taneil uttal" <taneil.uttal.atsea@rbnems.ronbrown.omao.noaa.gov> To: paquita.zuidema@noaa.gov, duane.hazen.atsea@rbnems.ronbrown.omao.noaa.gov,charlotte.vallee.atsea@rbnems.ronbrown.omao.noaa.gov Hi Paquita - I have been getting myself confused with sending images for the previous day and sometimes dating the update by the current day's date, and sometimes dating the update by the figure date. (Did that sentence make any sense at all?). In anycase, if my subject says "October 15th update" it should have the October 15th figure attached from now on. (My brains are sloshing). INSTRUMENT UPDATE Everything up and running. Radar still having floating helix currents, but nothing serious enought to trip the fault thresholds. Duane is working with Ken on "the green line", and blanking circuit timing. We actually are wondering if the green line is actually real signal from sea spray, or low level mists. It is intermittent, and when present, the signal does not vary with cloud thickness or reflectivity, but seems to have it's own "natural" variaion. PROCESSING UPDATE Duane has made some initial comparisons between sonde statistics and radiometer statistics. They look quite different, and suggest that someone is going to have to spend do some careful work in the radiometer post processing. As you folks do your reorganization master minding back there, please keep this in mind......with Brad off in the lidar group and Duane moving to the GRIDS project we are wondering how this will all shake out. I am hoping we will be able to contract Duane from ET1? DINNER UPDATE Fabulous t-bones with sauteed mushrooms. I STILL OWE YOU Rescaled figures for Oct 2, 3, 4 and 5. I am also resending October 13th in this email. Hope it is not a repeat. As for the Oct 2-5 series, I will probably send one a day for the next 4 days. AS USUAL 1. Acknowledge receipt of this email 2. Forward to Matrosov, Shupe, Post, Fairall, Otto, Moran, Ryan
