011001 Radar and Sounding Operation Status The radar went down around 10 UTC for unknown reasons. When the magnetron was brought back on line, it arced severely; however, the radar operated the rest of the day without incident. We are testing to see if the power supply may have been the culprit. Today is the last daily log as we have left station (06Z) at 10N and are currently steaming S of 8N, after making repairs to the 8N buoy. We have followed a large raining echo during the day. Although we are currently on the southern margin, we haven't been quite able to outrun the feature despite the fact that it is dissipating. The 12Z sounding ended below 500 mb, presumably due to sensor/balloon icing. The 16Z launch was scrubbed due to heavy rain at the ship. Consistent with the pattern observed on many previous days, the night time soundings (04-08 UTC) had the largest CAPE and mixed layer mixing ratio values.
