REVIEW OF PREVIOUS FORECAST

EPIC area under more normal moist conditions. Looks good for iTCZ flights today.

GENERAL OVERVIEW

Active convection in the EPIC operations area today. Wisc. 850 mb cloud drift wind vorticity analysis
shows lobes of positive vorticity all along 8-10N with a lobe extending north along 94W (Image 1). This lobe has
associated convection slowly moving to west (Image 2). Conditions expected to remain near normal the next few
days. Strong easterly wave in Atlantic now at 10N, 58W expected to continue to move west along 10N. If
this makes it into the EPIC area late next week along with positive phase of MJO, could see very active
convection.

DISCUSSION

Convection seems again to be associated with vorticity lobes shown on
Wisc. 850 analysis. Conditions similar to those near start of EPIC and
first flight of 9-3-01.

SUMMARY
