010914 Ron Brown Radar and Sounding Operations Summary The C-band radar operated contnuously without any significant problems. Similar to yesterday, it was an active weather day in the vicinity of the radar up through about 12Z. A number of cell complexes with intense vertical structure (30 dBZ to > 8 km) and visible lightning were observed. After sunrise, convective activity slowly decreased and my mid-morning, we were left with only a few scattered echos. The 20Z sounding should a significant near-surface inversion. 6 sondes were launched. The 04Z and 08Z sondes stopped sending data above 500 mb (one of these passed through a rain cell). The 12 and 16Z sondes did not return winds above the surface. CAPE values ranged from about 1100-1800 j/kg in soundings where this parameter could be calculated. Similar to the last several days, the trend was for generally decreasing CAPE as the day progressed.
