Overall: 1200GMT soundings began this morning

Aerosondes

     Aerosonde team en route to the Galapagos: arrival date 12 Sep. First
aerosonde shipment needed to begin operations has yet to clear customs. Second
shipment with additional equipment scheduled to arrive in approximately 8 days.

Soundings

     1200GMT soundings have begun; 0000GMT soundings continuing.

Operations Center

     Up and running. Telnet, ftp and e-mail are slow, but generally
stable and useful. Web surfing is not a practical Galapagos activity. Phone
service to persons outside Ecuador is not reliable (today we could not call
outside Ecuador from the Ops Center). 

Health report 

     Nic Thum is 95% recovered and on the job.
